Industry Standards
One common problem many industries currently face is the transfer of information between their business and others. As the electronic transfer of information within industries becomes regulated, whether by the government or by an outside group, the solution begins with Electronic Data Interchange (EDI).
EDI is the computer-to-computer exchange of business documents between companies, using a public standard format. By using a standard format, data from two completely different systems can be exchanged in an efficient and secure way. The most popular standard used today for data transfer is Extensible Markup Language (XML), which can be used as a foundation for data in many industries.
Here are some examples of standards we are familiar with:
- HIPAA
- MISMO
- HRXML
- HL7
- RosettaNet
- SWIFT
